The short stories that I read last
quarter were Sucker, The Sniper, and Hills Like White Elephants. In each
book, there were certain elements present that were common. There were not very
many similarities between the three stories, as the purpose of each one was
different from the other two entirely. Sucker was in the first person, whereas
The Sniper and Hills Like White Elephants are both in the third person limited
Point of View. The
Characters of each story were also completely
different. For example, the man in The Sniper is described as a fanatic and a
skilled soldier. The main character in Sucker is hardly described at all, as
the story mainly focuses on Sucker himself. The main characters in Hills like
white elephants are just relaxing while waiting for a train to pull in. There
were almost no similarities between these three stories.
I would agree with your statement on similarity since I've read two of the same, but disagree with your other statement about Hills Like White Elephants. I found that they were in a heated discussion about some kind of surgery, perhaps an abortion. It seemed almost unsettling instead of relaxing, to me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on their total difference, because I read both short stories. Overall, great language, and good short story choices.
